OUR PIVOT

It’s undoubtedly been a challenging period, any kind of change presents a challenge but this pandemic has presented a level of change that you just can’t prepare for. One minute the whole team is in the building, planning the year ahead, preparing for events and focusing on operations, the next day there are no events, no operations and the team is at home wondering what to do next. You find yourself needing to switch focus, from normal daily operations to creating a new product or service that people need, in the blink of an eye.

When everything you were working towards is put on hold, it takes a minute to adjust. Everyone has their daily work embedded in their subconscious, that mental to do list that we just start getting on with when we arrive at the office, our work routine, our projects that we mull over in our minds while we are on the tube or before we drop off at night. Shifting out of that mental space and into a new, creative and proactive frame of mind, all while the world is in chaos around you, takes some real discipline.

There have been many inspiring examples of this in our industry over the past few months, companies and individuals who took a deep breath and simply adapted to the uncontrollable environment in which they found themselves. Our friends over at The Event Book have written about several inspiring stories here in their ‘The Big Event Pivot’ series.

For us, we pivoted in a few different ways, but with the same common theme we’ve always had, produce great food and serve it to as many people as we can…

Healthy meal delivery

Although we usually focus on taste and indulgence, we also happen to have a master of sports science and nutrition on our team, so for lockdown we decided to combine his nutritional expertise with the talent of our chefs, to produce a range of health focussed menus, perfect for supporting the immune system.

Many customers have ordered from our healthy menus throughout the whole of lockdown and we have received some amazing feedback:

“It’s great to find a meal prep service that’s provided by a genuine food business and cooked by such amazing chefs. As well as being healthy and nutritious, the quality of the food and the flavours are just another level”

Due to it’s success, we are now looking at continuing our healthy meal delivery, even after things go back to normal and we get busy with events again.

Like all our other menus, we deliver healthy meals to your door 3x per week on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday!

Home experiences

As we aren’t able to serve our food at events, we decided to deliver it directly to people’s homes. We produced a range of experiences from a ‘Bao Bun Banquet’ to ‘The Perfect Sunday Roast.’ These menus are designed to be finished in your own kitchen, much like they would be for an event, providing the experience of top quality event catering, in the comfort of your own home and with minimal effort.

The nature of event catering means that we produce food from many cultures, with many flavours and our chefs are trained to perfect 100s of different recipes. These menus are a reflection of the diverse range of cuisines that we prepare for our events, delivered directly to your home on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Pop-up restaurant at Trinity Riverside

This was undoubtedly the highlight of our pandemic pivoting practices! Rolling back the years and opening a pop-up restaurant with one of our favourite venues Trinity Buoy Wharf! As many of you know, Boulevard started as a 50 seater family run restaurant in Victoria Park, in 1988, and to come full circle some 25 years after the Boulevard restaurant closed, with all the siblings working together cooking and serving tables, was a special experience.

It was only a three week run unfortunately, but we may decide to open another one soon, at a location to be confirmed, so watch this space.
